What it is
Secondary rhinoplasty, or revision rhinoplasty, corrects or refines the result of a previous nose operation. Patients seek it because of a shape they are unhappy with, asymmetry, or breathing difficulty that developed or remained after the first surgery, whether done here or elsewhere.
It is among the most demanding procedures in facial surgery, because the tissue is scarred, the normal landmarks are altered, and supporting cartilage may have been removed. Cartilage from the septum, ear, or rib is sometimes needed to rebuild support.
Because the nose has already been operated on, healing is less predictable and the planning is highly individualized. The aim is a more natural, functional nose, though revision cannot always achieve perfection. All surgery carries risks, and results vary.
