Rhinoplasty with septum surgery, often called septorhinoplasty, combines reshaping the external nose with straightening the internal septum in a single procedure. It suits patients who want to change the appearance of the nose and also have breathing difficulty from a deviated septum, or have a deviated nose due to a deviated septum.
Treating both together means the framework of the nose is refined for appearance while the airway is opened for breathing, in one anesthetic and one recovery. The straightened septal cartilage can also provide support used in the reshaping.
It is technically demanding, balancing form and function, and the nose heals slowly. The aim is a natural-looking nose that also breathes well. All surgery carries risks, and results vary.
