What it is
Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose to improve its proportion and harmony with the rest of the face. It can refine the bridge, tip, width, or angle of the nose, and can also improve breathing when internal structures are addressed at the same time.
The surgery is performed either closed, with all incisions inside the nose, or open, with a small additional incision across the central strip of skin between the nostrils, chosen for the complexity of the reshaping. The bone and cartilage are reshaped, and the skin redrapes over the new framework.
It is one of the most technically demanding facial procedures, since small changes have a large visual effect and the nose heals slowly. The aim is a natural nose that suits the face, not an obviously operated one. All surgery carries risks, and results vary.
