Hyperhidrosis treatment
Treatment to reduce excessive sweating, most commonly of the underarms.
Quick Facts

- Sessions: 1, repeated when the effect fades
- Anesthesia: Topical numbing for sensitive areas
- Downtime: Minimal
- Results visible: Over a few days to 2 weeks
- Results last: Typically 4–6 months or longer
- Minimum age: From 18 years
What it is
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) can affect the underarms, palms, or other areas and may be distressing in daily life. Treatment uses a prescription medicine, ordered by the doctor after assessment, injected into the skin of the affected area to temporarily block the signals that activate the sweat glands.
The effect develops over days and typically lasts several months before gradually wearing off, after which treatment can be repeated. The underarms are the most commonly treated area.
What it can improve
- Excessive underarm sweating
- Sweating of the palms, assessed individually
- Confidence and comfort in clothing and social situations
- Day-to-day impact of excessive sweating
It does not cure the underlying tendency to sweat, is temporary, and does not treat sweating caused by an underlying medical condition that needs separate care.
Before the procedure

The affected area and the impact of the sweating are assessed, and your medical history is reviewed to rule out causes that need different treatment. The procedure is avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
During the procedure

Small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected just under the skin across the affected area in a grid pattern, using a fine needle. Treating the palms may involve numbing first, as it can be more sensitive.
After the procedure

There is little downtime, and normal activity resumes quickly. The reduction in sweating develops over the following days to two weeks.
Results: what it can and cannot achieve
A marked, lasting reduction in sweating for several months is achievable in the treated area. The effect is temporary and wears off over time, so treatment is repeated, and it does not change the underlying tendency. Results vary between people.
Possible risks and complications
Botulinum toxin for sweating is generally safe in trained hands, but it carries some risks. Possible risks include:
- Bruising, redness, or tenderness at injection points
- Temporary discomfort, especially when treating the palms
- Temporary muscle weakness if the hands are treated
- Uneven reduction in sweating
- Compensatory sweating elsewhere, uncommonly
This is a prescription treatment used after assessment. It is avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding and in certain neuromuscular conditions. Sweating from an underlying medical cause is assessed separately.
Who it suits
Hyperhidrosis treatment may suit people troubled by excessive sweating. It is especially suitable for those who:
- Have excessive underarm or palm sweating
- Find everyday antiperspirants insufficient
- Are bothered by the impact on daily life
- Are in good general health and not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Are comfortable repeating treatment when it fades
It may not suit people whose sweating stems from an underlying condition needing separate care. Your clinician assesses the cause before treatment.
Why Skulpturkliniken
Aesthetic medicine at Skulpturkliniken
Non-surgical treatments at Skulpturkliniken are carried out by a physician after an individual assessment, within a medical, surgeon-led clinic. That means careful assessment, a conservative approach, and the reassurance of expert support behind every treatment.
Natural, balanced results
The aim is a refreshed, natural result that enhances your features rather than changing them. Treatments are planned with restraint, because subtle and well-judged almost always looks better than overdone.
The reassurance of a surgeon-led clinic
Working within a medical, surgeon-led clinic means honest advice about what a non-surgical treatment can and cannot do, and when a different treatment, or none at all, would serve you better. Your safety and a natural result always come first.
