What it is
Dermal fillers are gels based on hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. Injected with a fine needle or cannula, they restore lost volume, soften folds, and add definition to areas such as the cheeks, lips, and jawline.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary and gradually broken down by the body over months. An important safety feature is that, if needed, they can be dissolved with an enzyme treatment. Results are immediate, and the approach at Skulpturkliniken is deliberately conservative for a natural look.
What it can improve
- Volume loss in the cheeks or midface
- Folds and lines around the nose and mouth
- Lip shape, definition, and subtle volume
- Definition of the chin or jawline
Filler does not lift significantly sagging skin, does not improve skin surface quality on its own, and is not permanent. It cannot achieve large structural change that needs surgery.
Before the procedure

Your concerns and facial proportions are assessed, and your medical history, including any blood thinners or previous treatments, is reviewed. Avoiding alcohol and certain supplements beforehand can reduce bruising.
During the procedure

Filler is placed precisely with a fine needle or cannula in small amounts, with the result shaped and checked as the treatment proceeds for a balanced, natural outcome.
After the procedure

Mild swelling, redness, or bruising is common and settles over a few days to two weeks. Strenuous exercise, heat, and alcohol are usually avoided for a day or two. The final result settles as any swelling resolves.
Results: what it can and cannot achieve
Restored volume, softened folds, and subtle definition are achievable immediately. Filler cannot lift heavy sagging or replace surgery, is temporary, and over-treatment looks unnatural, which is why a conservative approach is used. Results vary between people and areas.
Possible risks and complications
Hyaluronic acid filler is generally safe in trained hands, but all injectable treatments carry risks. Possible risks include:
- Swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness
- Lumps, unevenness, or asymmetry
- Infection, which is uncommon
- Delayed inflammatory reactions, rarely
- Rare but serious blockage of a blood vessel (vascular occlusion), which can cause skin damage and, very rarely, visual problems
The rare but serious risk of vascular occlusion is why filler should only be performed by trained clinicians who can recognize and manage it, including dissolving the filler with an enzyme treatment if needed. Filler is avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Who it suits
Dermal fillers may suit people wanting to restore volume or refine features non-surgically. They are especially suitable for those who:
- Have lost volume or want subtle definition
- Prefer a non-surgical, reversible option
- Want immediate results with minimal downtime
- Are in good general health and not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have realistic expectations about a natural result
Filler may not suit people with significant sagging better treated by surgery, active skin infection in the area, or certain medical conditions. Your clinician advises whether it is right for you.
Why Skulpturkliniken
Aesthetic medicine at Skulpturkliniken
Non-surgical treatments at Skulpturkliniken are carried out by a physician after an individual assessment, within a medical, surgeon-led clinic. That means careful assessment, a conservative approach, and the reassurance of expert support behind every treatment.
Natural, balanced results
The aim is a refreshed, natural result that enhances your features rather than changing them. Treatments are planned with restraint, because subtle and well-judged almost always looks better than overdone.
The reassurance of a surgeon-led clinic
Working within a medical, surgeon-led clinic means honest advice about what a non-surgical treatment can and cannot do, and when a different treatment, or none at all, would serve you better. Your safety and a natural result always come first.
