PRP facial
Using growth factors from your own blood to refresh skin quality and support natural renewal.
Quick Facts
- Treatment time: 45–60 minutes including preparation
- Sessions: Usually a course, then maintenance
- Anesthesia: Topical numbing
- Downtime: Mild redness for a day or so
- Results visible: Gradually over weeks
- Maintenance: Top-ups every few months
- Minimum age: From 18 years
What it is
A PRP (platelet-rich plasma) facial uses a small sample of your own blood, which is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and the growth factors they contain. This concentrate is then applied to the skin, usually in combination with microneedling, or injected, to support the skin's natural renewal.
Because it uses your own blood, it is well tolerated. Results build gradually over a course of sessions, improving skin quality and texture rather than adding volume or lifting.
What it can improve
- Overall skin quality, tone, and texture
- Fine lines and a dull, tired appearance
- Skin firmness and radiance over a course
- Under-eye skin quality, assessed individually
It does not add volume or lift sagging skin, does not remove deep wrinkles, and works gradually rather than instantly. Results vary between individuals.
Before the procedure

Your skin and goals are assessed and your medical history reviewed. Avoiding certain supplements and alcohol beforehand can reduce bruising, and the recommended course is explained.
During the procedure

A small blood sample is taken and spun to concentrate the platelets. The concentrate is then applied with microneedling or injected into the skin to support renewal.
After the procedure

Mild redness, like a light sunburn, and occasional pinpoint bruising settle within a day or so. Gentle skincare and sun protection are advised, and improvement builds over the following weeks.
Results: what it can and cannot achieve
Refreshed skin quality, tone, and texture are achievable over a course of sessions. PRP cannot add volume, lift, or remove deep lines, results are gradual, and maintenance is needed to sustain them.
Possible risks and complications
A PRP facial is generally well tolerated since it uses your own blood, but it carries some risks. Possible risks include:
- Redness, swelling, or pinpoint bruising
- Tenderness in the treated area
- Infection, which is uncommon
- Temporary unevenness
- Variable response between individuals
PRP is avoided over areas of active skin infection and in certain blood or medical conditions. Sun protection before and after treatment is important, and treatments are timed and adjusted to your skin type to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.
Who it suits
A PRP facial may suit people wanting to refresh skin quality naturally. It is especially suitable for those who:
- Want improved tone, texture, and radiance
- Prefer a treatment using their own blood
- Are comfortable with a course and gradual results
- Are in good general health
- Have realistic expectations about a subtle, building result
It may not suit people seeking volume, lifting, or correction of deep wrinkles, or those with certain blood or skin conditions. Your clinician advises the best option.
