What it is
Platysma refinement, or platysmaplasty, tightens the platysma, the broad sheet of muscle across the front of the neck. With age this muscle separates and forms vertical bands and a fuller, less defined neck. The procedure rejoins and tightens the muscle in the midline, often described as a corset technique.
Through a small incision under the chin, the muscle edges are stitched together to recreate a smooth, defined neckline and a sharper angle between the chin and neck. It is frequently combined with neck liposuction and a facelift or neck lift.
On its own it addresses muscle bands and contour, not loose skin, which may need a neck lift. All surgery carries risks, and results vary.
